Wendy @ Cape Trib Camping

Written by Wendy Frank (resident caretaker and shell collector)

Speaking as a traveller, new to Cape Tribulation it's magnificent, ancient and awe inspiring and we've been loving just exploring the Cape Trib Camping area, you hardly need to leave the camp, it's relaxing and quiet and truely beautiful.

This Caravan Park has been set up to be as gentle to the World Heritage environment, the surrounding forest is a joy to camp against and walk through, then to top it off the short paths lead out to the magnificent Myall Beach, reefs at ow tide to explore, so bring your reef shoes. The low tide pools surprise you with coloured reefs and an abundance of reef fish of all the colours of the rainbow, shapes and sizes. Stand quietly and wait and they soon come out from hiding.

Take your chair out to the beach and sit and take in the splendour all around you, capture those sunrises, photos you and you friends and family will be in awe of for a long time to come, watch the local horse riding experience, ride by and take the riders into the water where the horses delight in pawing the water with relish, exciting the riders with their giggles and laughter, before disappearing back into the rainforest where they came from.

The trees, the wildlife, the plants. Cassowaries... Oh! my goodness that is such a highlight of be here! They are such a regal creature, one of my favourite and unexpected delights is the Fireflies, there's not many more things that are so magical and pure Wow factor.

The resident Lace Monitors do their daily camp check, the Bush Turkey's, the cute and cheeky Sunbirds, the Kingfishers darting around the beach, the little crabs scampering all over the beach, little balls of sand decorating the sand. the butterflies...oh the butterflies! the huge Cairns Birdwing and stunning blue of the magnificent Ulysses Butterfly we never tire of.

A short stroll south down the beach you find a path leading into the bush and low and behold there to greet you is a big strangler fig tree in all it's glory, amongst the twinning vines reaching to the sky then dangle down and swinging through the trees.

After huge fulfilling days you can then break the day with an Espresso  and a well earned muffin on the deck of the Sand Bar back at camp, later enjoy a Pizza and wine, taking in the relaxed environment.

We are so glad to be here and certainly privilaged to be able to camp in this ancient and awe inspiring piece of Australia's absolute best of the best.
