Exploring Daintree!

Exploring the Daintree Area is a joy to do. We went to The Daintree Discovery Centre which was amazing, with the 11m high boardwalk over a beautiful part of the rainforest, the audio guide along the walks, the canopy tower which I was too cowardly to tackle!
There's so much to capture your interest like the bush tucker trail and reptile and native fish displays. We really loved the beautiful forest snakes and their pretty patterns. At the cassowary trail, you are educated about the life and eating habits of the cassowary. Then the info centre and delightful coffee shop where you can sit and look out over the forest or buy a bit of memorabilia of your visit.

Down the road from the Discovery Centre is the Jindalba Walk, which is free and our favorite so far. It takes you through glorious forest, with rambling vines some thicker than a tree trunk, winding up trees like a snake and falling like a slippery dip to the ground. Then they reach up, across and through the canopy again. With creeks small and babbling and majestic waterfalls or rambling over rocks, water so clear and beautiful it takes your breath away.
High up in the canopy are Elkhorn ferns, birds nest and basket ferns that adorn the branches so plentiful they get too heavy and make the branches collide.
And as always the gloriously magnificent iridescent blue Ulysses Butterfly flutters through just when you thought it couldn't get any more beautiful.

The Marrdja Botanical walk is a free walk and must do as well. We were pleasantly surprised that it is mainly boardwalks over wetlands in the rainforest, extremely interesting and beautiful to say the least.

We have really enjoyed exploring Daintree, north of the ferry. The most magnificent part by a smidge is having the privilege to have seen Cassowaries so far 6 or 7 times. They are truly the royalty of the wet rainforest along with their guardian angels, the Ulysses Butterfly.

We Australians are so lucky to have this magnificent World Heritage area next to another jaw dropping site as the Great Barrier Reef. I pinch myself to realize the privilege of spending extended time here. Meeting numerous overseas travelers and fellow Aussies young and old, just as excited as us to be in this magical and soul fulfilling place, it humbles me. It makes me happy to know so many value this place too and may it stay as it is for eons to come.
